Tom Gontier is originally from Antwerp, Belgium, but he currently lives in Norway. He is an all-rounded musician, active as a composer, teacher, and performer.
Tom received his Bachelor and Master degrees of music in Belgium. He pursued this education at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp and the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. The focus of his studies included the trumpet, conducting, pedagogy, and music theory, especially harmony, counterpoint, and fugue. Baroque and historical trumpet have become his passions!
As a freelance trumpet player, Tom has performed with many ensembles and orchestras, including:
- The Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra
- National Orchestra of Belgium
- Royal Flemish Philharmonic
- The World Orchestra
- Collegium Vocale Ghent
- The Orchestra of the Flemish Opera
Currently, Tom is not only a member of the Artsy & Me team, but he is also a freelancer at the Ålesund Kulturskole, and he conducts various groups, including the Hessa og Aspøy Skolekorps, Nørvøy Ungdomskorps, and several choirs. His work as a composer is also gaining increasing interest; several of his works have even been honored with prestigious prizes.
