Originally from Belgium, Stijn Berbé now lives with his family in Norway, where he works as a conductor, music educator, and tenor horn player.
Stijn received his trumpet music training at De Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp, Belgium.
After his initial training, Stijn switched instruments to tenor horn. He then studied with Bart van Neyghem, Frans Violet, and Nick Ost. He learned his profession as a hornist in the Brass Band Willebroek, with whom he won the European Championships in Brass in 2006 and 2007.
As a tenor horn soloist, Stijn won national soloist competitions in Belgium, as well as the soloist award at the Brass Band Festival in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. With these honors, he was invited to the semi-finals of the European soloist competition for brass in Glasgow, Scotland.
In 2009, Stijn was also honored to play with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Schostakovich’s opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, conducted by Mariss Jansons.
In addition to these (and many more!) experiences as a performer, Stijn was also a board member of the Brass Band Willebroek for many years.
Currently, Stijn is not only a member of the Artsy & Me team, but he is also active as a tenor horn soloist for the instrument brand Sterling, and he works as a brass teacher at Vestnes Kulturskole. He is also a conductor at the Vestnes Skolekorps and Åse Skolekorps in Norway.
During his spare time, Stijn enjoys playing solo horn in the Molde Brass Band, as well as hanging out with his family and, of course, the other Artsy & Me team members.
